Hi everyone,

About 9 days ago (2 Saturdays ago to be exact), I was doing a mindwork exercise at 3am to program my mind for and towards lucid dreaming. After I finished and went back to sleep, this was the dream I had:

I got out of bed, but noticed I felt EXTREMELY drowsy. I also felt this very strong, hypnotic vibration (it felt like my whole body was numb and needed sleep desperately) going through my body. I walked zombielike to my room door, and was about to open it, but decided "screw it i'm really tired" - the visuals of the room were dark with a deep blue light coming in through the window, radiating the room slightly. I began feeling more sleepbound as i faced where my physical body lay - the vibrations became much stronger. As I was about to go back to sleep, I noticed a lawn sprinkler on my bed - I just threw it off and went back to sleep.

I immediately went into another dream, which was very vivid. I can still remember a good 80% of it clear as day.

The most notable thing about the dream is how unbelievably REAL it seemed - I literally felt like I was me in a regular setting and like the whole event really was just me waking up really tired (although the numbness sensation struck me as weird), getting up, and going back to sleep. If I didn't remember the lawn sprinkler I don't own, I seriously wouldn't know it from my waking experience.

So my question is: did I somehow AP instead of lucid dream? Almost all I've read on the topic says the 2 are cloesly related and that one could use one as a springboard to the other.

All input is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Peace,
Hiram

A lucid dream is more about one realizing theyre dreaming and doing what ever you can imagine, rather than how detailed it is. This was most likely a waking dream, because of the numbness and the vividness of the dream. Its very normal and well documented medically. Almost everyone has had at least one.

Perhaps, except it doesn't explain the following:

-Why the numbness felt so pleasant (I've felt regular numbness - not the best feeling) - it reminded me of a phenomenon that used to happen to my sister where she'd hear/feel a buzz sound, often with several figures towering over her, and she said the buzz gave her the strongest urge to fall asleep (like the vibes in my body).

-Why it got stronger as I was facing my bed

-Why there were no dreams between the time I originally went to sleep and the time this happened

I'm not dismissing the possibility - just that i doubt it is, since this only happened the same night i did a more intensely concentrated exercise to prime for LD (Tbh I've never even heard of waking dreams til you told me - plus from what i've seen on the matter, they happen directly after a dream, not before). This has never happened before, and I've been doing night priming exercises for the past 2-3 weeks or so.

Since then I've been reading Astral Dynamics - based on what they had to say, it does sound like i had a defunct projection of sorts (esp. since this isn't the only time distinctly weird things have happened in dreamtime). Either way, I'm gonna continue on and see what happens - the topic's still open for input, though (yours is appreciated btw).

Actually they can happen even without dreams, its also called sleep paralysis. In fact all of this can be explained by it. The numbness can range from very pleasent to extreme fear and right after the subject falls right back to sleep. Ive found this is not uncommon when one tries to lucid dream or astral project. There's always a posibility for an alternate explaination but SP is most likely.

Really? hmm... How/why does it happen, is it because the process only gets partially activated? (i.e. only astral sight/touch, hence the random lawn sprinkler) Just throwing theories around - what's been your exp. on the matter?

EDIT: I forgot something else - the other reason why I wonder if its a defunct project as opposed to just SP is because [from what I've read] super vivid dreams are said to immediately follow a projection.

My theory on the matters pretty similar. From what Ive seen waking dreams seem to be bordering the activity in the brain for projection, maybe caused by an attemt of or succession of projecting. As one successfuly focuses on the AP itself its probable the waking dreams will begin to cease. So it could very well be a sign of being close to your goal.
