The beginnings of a report of Precognition, pointers for continuations needed. Just reading would also be appreciated.
Regards- Chris

Precognition

The art of knowing of an event before it takes place.
Precognition is one of the oldest forms of psionic ability recorded. From the oracles of ancient Greece to the palm readings of modern times the ability to see the future has continued to fascinate and enthral people of all ages and social groups. In this document I will look at some forms of foretelling and describe as best I can their uses and forms.

Inherent prophecy
Knowledge of the future seen without outside aid.

Inherent prophecy is probably the most common form of manifested Precognition, in that it takes no practise, no training and can be triggered by a great number of outside influences, such as sights, scents or even thoughts. The knowledge of the future can come in many forms, the most common being a feeling or instinct or sense of fore-boding that many of us have felt at some point in our life (I theorise that an inherent ability to sense the future on some level is part of all humans make-up and so this feeling should be familiar on some level to all of us).

Another form of inherent prophecy is the receiving of visions that literally show the seer the future, either accurately of through representational images and patterns. These can be received in a normal state of mind or, more commonly, can be received in an altered state of mind, such as alpha and beta mind forms or a trance of some kind (natural or unnatural).

The Tarot deck
The cards many believe to know the future.

The tarot deck reader is commonly seen as one of the most accurate tellers of futures and fortunes, due to the considerable mystique that has grown around the tarot cards themselves and the connection they have forged to the future thorough various medias (similarly to palm reading (see below)). The tarot is usually drawn in sets of three; the first card giving a message relating to the past, the second to the present and the third to the future. However, more complex readings are often used to give more detailed information as to what the future holds, using 5, 10 or even the whole deck of cards.

The Tarot deck began life as part of a court game several hundreds of years ago, from which the similarities of the four ‘houses’ of cards (Staves, Wands, Pentagrams, Swords) of the minor acarana to the fours symbols that currently appear on common playing cards can be seen (Hearts, Clubs, Spades, Diamonds). From these beginnings it faded from the public eye, only to appear at a later date with the addition of the fortune telling mystique and the increase in the importance of the Major acarana.

The major acarana are 21 cards that do not specifically fit into any of the four ‘houses’ of pentagrams, swords, wands and staves. Instead they are numbered from 0 to 20. These cards are, as with the house cards, connected to a deeper meaning. The Fool, for example, does not represent a need to avoid cautionless behaviour, although an untaught seer may believe that. This also shows us that throwing caution to the wind might at times be favourable to us, or may have been in the past. There are, however, many interpretations of both the major and minor acarana and as such each seer will give a different interpretation depending on factors such as what they have been taught, natural abilities to see the future unaided and inner feelings.

There is one other way in which the cards meanings can be significantly affected; the way a card lays on the table. The most common way this is seen is if a card is, to the reader, flipped upon itself. This ‘reversed’ meaning is often negative, and often gives advice that draws from the negative aspect of what the card more commonly represents. In the case of the Fool, for example, a reversed reading might tell the seer that their subject must avoid cautionless behaviour if they wish to avoid the consequences of such behaviour.

Scrying
Seeing the future in objects around us.

Scrying, while not as common a talent as inherent foresight, often manifests itself as a natural talent, though it can also be taught as a discipline if the learner has patience. At its simplest the practitioner (referred to as a scryer) projects visions of the future onto the surface of a physical item. This methods advantage over inherent foresight mostly concerns the fact that inherent foresight can be traumatic for the user, not to mention unpredictable. Scrying is a much more stable form of precognition, and much easier for some to manifest in a controlled and directable manner.

In the media scrying is most commonly shown as casting into a crystal ball, which, while one of the simpler forms of scrying, is hardly the most common, as a good crystal ball can be challenging to both find and maintain. Instead, many scryers create their own area, from something as simple as a piece of blank wall, to a bowl or pool of still water.

A note on seeing the future

It should probably be noted here a short point on the future that a potential seer might experience. To wit: The future you see is not set in stone. The only actions that are truly set in stone are those in the past. Both the present and the future are constantly changing and transforming, giving rise to obscene evil and angelic good on a daily basis. As such no action that you might see either yourself or anyone else perform is certain and to act upon a foretelling solely can lead to either the events you foretold or to another timeline that while potentially better, could just as easily be considered worse for many involved. This does not mean that foretelling should be ignored, but only that caution should be applied before acting upon them.
