best advise i have ever gotten on meditation is "don't let anyone else tell you how to meditate". I took that advice and i have never felt better in life as i do now.
This is probably not what you are looking for but take other people out of the equation. Start to fine your own ways that work for you. You can take other people's advice and add you own spine on it.
BTW leave what i just said out of the equation too.

my i suggest- google or youtube. Instant manifestation of information.
But what I do is what most people tell you not to do in meditating. I lie down on my back but with my eyes open. I pay attention to my breath and to my relaxation. In other words I am relaxing all muscle tensions and just paying attention to my breathing. when a thought comes in i just let it go. Then i bring myselef back to my breathing.
Just relax and breath. that's all you really want to do. After time you will start to feel better and better. I go for about 10 to 20 min a day. sometimes 2x a day.
hope that helps.

The simplest form of meditation that I practice is breathe work. Focus only on your breathing, in through the nose and out through the mouth remove all stray thoughts and focus only on your breathing.
Another thing you could try is to practice the above in conjunction with another exercise, which is to focus on an object or point of focus, remove all other thoughts and focus solely on the object, as your eyes naturally wander bring them back to the focus point. I find this particularly potent. I was sat on the floor in the Dojo facing a large mirror wall, I simply gazed at my reflection and focused on my breathing emptying all thoughts from my mind. A short 15 minute session and I was as light as a feather with lightning fast reflexes, it must have some positive effect.

You can meditate to music, by closing your eyes and visualizing the music in your minds eye.

A good starting meditation is focusing on the navel chakra and breathing into it. A great start for energy work, focus etc.
