I really believe this important subject that if you want something you should probably fast a few days a week. Why is that?
Most ancient religions say that in order to achieve something they really want they should be willing to fast a few days in order to get it.During fasting the Mind grows stronger in more ways than you can imagine.
The intuition, cosmic consciousness all increase extraordinarily. One of these theories is that when you fast the blood used to digest foods is all stored in the brain. More blood more brains. It has a massive probability to strengthen mind powers and possibily manifestation.
So its very good to fast at least once a week.

I would never do this because your body needs a regular amount of food to stay healthy. Fasting can lead to mental disorder if done for too long.
However if you feel you're up to it I don't see why not? But I would probably try meditating for a long period of time or sensory deprivation to achieve this kind of state...

I fast every now and again but only for 24 hours. I find it extremely purifying physically, mentally and spiritually but I keep work to a minimum on those days.

I don't really fast per se, but I do skip meals when I'm not hungry. People today are far too food obsessed. We just assume that 3 meals per day is ideal without any consideration of actual needs. We eat at weddings. We eat at funerals. We have eat at holidays and birthdays. We eat far too often due to nothing but programming.
Fasting puts your body in panic mode. When your blood sugar hits a certain level, you start using up glycogen (short-term energy storage) in your muscles and liver. Going for more than a day or so without food will cause your body to start breaking down your skeletal muscles and the lining of your intestines into glucose to keep your blood sugar elevated to levels your brain can work with.
Fasting every once in a while won't hurt you (unless you're diabetic or have other dietary problems). If you have any concerns, see a doctor first. If you feel faint or dizzy, drink some juice or a soda, and see your doctor before skipping meals again.

i fast regularly, but not so much nowadays with a religious intent, but more so on a spiritual aspect.
its a fundamental of all religions, spiritual teachings, that one who can control the taste bud and stomach, can start the journey towards attaining spiritual awakening.
"Lower Indriyaan" as are called by Hindu scriptures...lower meaning everything to do with physical pleasures,,,mostly to do with food and sex...we spend most of the time of our lives fulfilling the "lower indriyaans"..
, while the "upper indriyaans" mainly love, third eye, cosmos remain unfulfilled...
fasting is one way to channelize energy out of lower to upper indriyaans..
i fasted last month for a week without consuming grains...only fruits once a day....
I DONT RECOMMEND this to anyone without fasting a single day/week for months before graduating to stricter fasts.
I can gurantee you to experience purification..
the body gets de-toxified,,
cleansed of many toxins, and junk we keep consuming..
such a body gets rightly tuned to nature to perceive its energy and a spiritual awareness.
should in case you fast "to have gain something",, you must know your blockages and which day of the week to fast and which diety to please to achieve..that depends more on your horoscope. not western but Vedic one.

well of course when you eat a heavy meal digestion then consumes quite a lot of energy. Fasting in short spurts can have a great effect in everyone's mental, physical and spiritual strenght in all cases that this thing covers at least in the slightest bit, which has a wide range (sorry for not being exactly clear here). Longterm fasting, or done too often drains your muscles from nutritions they need to reconstruct, keep active and strong. I'd only short periods of this fasting. It will have better effects than longterm ones, I am 80% sure of this, looking from all possible angles sort of.
As a another thing to add to this, during fasting, prevent all drugs, alcohol and you know the most common: nicotine in the way of smoking.

I also feel the same and I fast only when I am having holidays otherwise I am not able to fast. I tried it when I was in college but I passed out and since then I only fast in holidays.
For me fasting is important to know that I am not "addicted"to something like I also have days that I dont switch on the tv or pc.
