This morning I tried for a second time to meet my spirit guide, I was half asleep and I said "I wish to meet my spirit guide" A lot of energy gathered and formed into that of a fairy. We exchanged pleasentries then I asked her:
"Tell me something I don't know?"
"Freedom is like a purple goat, it always turns up when you don't expect it."
At this point I got annoyed since I knew I was just making it all up.
"Please, why shouldn't I give up."
"Giving up is like a purple goat, completely pointless."
I got angry and asked her again, getting quite desperate, and then with my anger the imaginary scene started to shake, and there was a deep rumbling sound. A few seconds later I was woken up by a real one, thunder.
I then heard a smug voice saying: "See?"
Whilst this was probably just a coincidence, it was still pretty good timing.
Can anybody give me some tips on meeting my spirit guide?

ok there are a few things you could do, one way is to meditate, and focus on your guide and talking with them, this will take time and practice don't get discouraged if it takes a while.

Congratulations, you have summoned a fairy.
In my experiences, they tend to be very mischievous and harmless so just be patience with him/her. Have fun with it and enjoy its company
