Any christian who has been walking with a nagging concern regarding other religions and their relation and compatability with christianity (likewise for non-christians wanting to find common ground with christianity) I would be happy to answer some questions...
I have dedicated a significant portion of my life towards the persuit of truth, and I have found and distilliled a considerable amount of wisdom and what I like to call "Jewels of truth" which are universal concepts which could be unearthed in any major religion. I think the primary difference separating one religion from another is the varying beliefs of the enigmatic, eternal and absolute entity we call God.
Christians think God heaven smiling down upon us, with enormous and inconcievable glory...yet was paradoxically, at one time clumped and contained within one human body.
Islam views God as ultimate, unlimited, undefinable and consequently could not possibly be inhabited by the limitations of a human body.
Buddhism regards God as primordial emptiness, without personality, distinctions or attributes which we could associate IT with.
Who's right? As absurd as it sounds, were all right! God is infinitely more than we could understand, he is like a brilliant multi-faceted diamond, dynamically reflecting and interacting with himself endlessly, much like two mirrors placed in front of each other create an endless cascade of inumerable divisions and aliases. God is personal and impersonal, bound by a body and transcending a body, material and immaterial, nothingness and somethingness, forever and ever and ever...continuing on to infinity. To find common ground, equal understanding between each other....
We need to clarify which aspect of God we are referring to. For more efficient understanding in science, we have compartmentalized nature into many sections and teachings; in physics there are two major divisions...Newtonian physics (the study of the macrocosmic realm) and Quantum physics (the study of the microcosmic). Scientists have found that these two are remarkably different, functioning by different laws, equations and behavior; but this does not make one more existent, better or worse than another. "As above, so below" God is the same, his nature is inevitably reflected in his creation.
To really understand our cosmic dillema; answer significant questions pertaining to the universe, God and ourselves...We need to objectively view our situation, really qualify the size of our conceptual boxes we limit God to, and ask ourselves how much we are willing to stretch. Every one of you could definitely agree that God is beyond our understanding, thus we should be open to the fact that he may extend beyond the confines of our relatively (compared to his magnitude) minsicule and infinitesimal "conceptual boxes".
Heres one question I recently answered on another forum regarding fate and destiny:
Well, just like every deep and significant subject; what emerges is not one simple, black and white answer...But a collosal web of interconnected answers and questions. Our whole universe is one huge balanced system of interactions; one leads to another, which leads to another to balance one aspect, which balances another etc. Our whole universe is in a constant state of flux and movement towards equilibrium...The same is applicable for every human interaction, for our lives and our destiny.
There is a reason for every event; thus yes destiny exists...But it eludes the whole "predestination vs. choice" theory because its both. We are led towards balance (love, compassion, harmonious relationships) in our lives, but it is OUR choice whether to adhere to the universal flow of order in the universe...or decide to do things our way. Love and compassion are universal forces utilized by nature because of its harmonizing principles; love creates peace, coherent and organized action between many individuals. Hate causes discord and un-organized movement between many individuals doing there own thing. So choosing to love or hate is really a choice of living for the divine purpose and plan of God and the whole, or living just for our agenda...Which will disrupt the whole. Living for the whole and embodying the principles of harmony is what New Ager's call embodying "Christ Consciousness".
Our lives are like the grooves in a record, we have many probable timelines but it is our consciousness which acts like a needle choosing which to experience. Whatever choice we make, no matter how insignificant it may seem is felt by everyone; since our lives and actions are all connected, are actions effect others. This sends shockwaves effecting the probable grooves for others to choose...Every action resosonates, sending shockwaves to set off others. Our shockwaves have been called karma. So karma is basically when we attract bad circumstances proportional to the negative waves we've created. The proper way to rid of karma is to experience these bad circumstances and radiate good waves to cancel out our previous bad ones and return the cosmic system back towards balance.
This balancing principle controls and attracts ever event in our lives. Everything we've experienced was purposely orchestrated for us to choose harmony over hate and distribute positive shockwaves which benefit the whole. If we benefit the whole, the whole will help us in our endeavors...Everthing would be as natural, blissful and effortless like water cascading down a stream; from our lives, needs and desires. This is called "walking with God"...
This is how God interacts with us; through other people under the adherance of his flow.
Just a couple of days ago I was in the hospital...Right as I was flipping the channels of the tv above me, I saw a Benny Hinn show (a famous christian) he began to raise his hands, and pray for healing of those who are watching. Yesterday I was praying for God's guidence and prosperity, and I just coincidentally turned on the tv to encounter Benny Hinn again, right when he was praying for the prosperity of those watching!
Because Benny Hinn has dedicated his life for the service of God and the balance of the whole, he used him to essentially talk to me and re-assure me he is listening to my prayers.
From Buddhism, to Taoism, to Hinduism, to Christianity, to Islam the goal is the same: to harmonize ourselves to the will and flow of God. Thats our ultimate destiny. |
